Sending email to parents from Zangle

Zangle has two separate options for sending emails to parents. Both are appropriate, but there is a serious glitch in one of them for Windows users.

Option 1: From the TeacherConnection, select the Email tab, select a class, the individuals that you wish to send the email to, type the email and send. It should work properly.

Option 2: From the Student Profile, select a student and select Contacts. Click on the person that you wish to email and compose and send your email. **CAUTION!** There are problems with Windows users!

Macintosh users: This option should launch Entourage or Outlook if they are not open already, allow you to compose your message and send it. Entourage or Outlook will remain open and send your message and everything should be ok.

Windows users: If Outlook is open already, this will behave properly. If Outlook is *NOT* open already, it appears that what happens is this: It opens Outlook, you compose your message, you click Send and it puts it in the Outbox and closes the program WITHOUT sending. Then the next time that you open Outlook (or send a message from Zangle if you don't normally use Outlook) the message is sent. This could be weeks later! Having Outlook Options set to send immediately does not appear to solve this problem.

Solution (Windows users): Open Outlook independently before using this option and look in the Sent folder afterwards to confirm that the message has been sent. (I would recommend using Outlook rather than Webmail anyway - it's a good program...)

Please be aware of this! Parents appreciate communication from teachers, but critical messages that arrive weeks later can cause problems for all concerned.
