Converting Rubric Scores into Percent Scores in Zangle

This is only one method. If someone has a favorite alternate method, I would be happy to add it to this page.

Suppose you have a 6 point rubric and a student scores 4 points. If you enter it 'as-is', the student will receive a 67% D. If that is not what you want, something has to be changed. I would raise the base number of points for my rubric and then subtract points 'off the top' to get my score. As I set up the rubric, I'd think about how I wanted the grades to turn out.

In this example, I'd probably start with a base of 10 points. Subtracting 2 points would give 8/10 or 80%. But I would work through different scenarios and ask myself if the grades produced are what I want.

I would probably base most of my rubrics on a 20 point scale and make a list of the things that I would subtract points for, keeping in mind that for every two points, the grade would drop 10% or one letter grade. The end result should be that someone who did a 'sad' job, but still completed the assignment, would get 10 or 12 points and a 50-60% grade.
