Zangle Scoring Options

Zangle Scoring Options

The Zangle Scoring Options gives a number of custom ways to process grades. These pages will illustrate some of the options and results. Using these options will add a great deal of information to the Progress Reports that parents will see. At the bottom of this page is a link to the progress reports from the final Grade Spreadsheet.

Define Scoring Options

Under Gradebook Setup / Scoring Options, define options and pick colors as you see fit.

Add Assignments

These are the assignments used in this sample. Note that the bottom one is Extra Credit. Putting in the highest number of points expected for the extra credit will limit the times that you have to ok an 'overload' of points.

Grade Spreadsheet view

The spreadsheet shows a number of things:
Deckar - 5 pts extra credit are added as you would expect.
Guzman - test is marked as late work. It was scored as 100, but it only counts as 80.
Herbert - test is marked as a retake. It was scored as 100, but it only counts as 80.
Oakley and Watson - H1 is marked for both of them as 'Missing', but look at the difference in grades. Because the Class Options were set so that Missing Assignment Scores were not counted in grade calculations, Oakley got a free ride on the 'Missing'. Compare this with the same spreadsheet below.

Change Class Options settings

The previous spreadsheet was calculated with Missing Assignment Scores 'Not Counted in Grade Calculations'. Change the settings to 'Count As Zero in Grade Calculations'

Missing counted as Zero

This is the same as the above spreadsheet, except that the missing assignments are counted as Zero and Herbert was excused from three assignments. Note how Oakley and Watson now have the same grade.
The moral of this example: If you use the Missing Assignment mark and you do not count missing assignments as Zero, you MUST enter a grade for the assignment. It is better to count Missing Assignment Scores as Zero if you wish them to count that way.
