Course Goals:
At the end of this course you, the student, will be able to:
1) Learn and apply the scientific methods
2) Understand the history and development of science.
3) Demonstrate knowledge of the metric system and acknowledge its importance in science
4) Lean the connection between temperature, density and states of matter
5) Learn the life cycle and characteristics of stars
6) Understand how the sun is the source of energy on earth
7) Know that weather is a short-term condition of the atmosphere subject to change
8) Know that climate is a long-term condition of the atmosphere and subject to change
9) Learn about plate tectonics
10) Learn the common properties of all waves
11) Learn the basics of the electromagnetic spectrum
12) Learn and apply Newton’s first three laws.
13) Learn the causes and effects of gravity
14) Learn the similarities between magnetic forces and electrical forces.
15) Learn and apply atomic and molecular theory.
16) Learn about cells and cellular chemistry
17) Understand and apply the concepts of genetics to life problems
18) Understand the development and biology of plants
19) Understand and apply concepts of microbiology
20) Describe the structure and functions of animals

This plan will help prepare you for advanced study of science, either at DHS, college or elsewhere. This course will also enable you to answer questions using a formal method, which is useful in many aspects of life. For students who find the above goals too difficult or demanding, I offer after school tutoring that will enable them to achieve a satisfactory grade. I am available after school almost every for individual help with projects or other work.
