The purpose of the Conceptual Chemistry program at West High School is to provide basic and advanced insight into the topics listed in the overview below. Through a comprehensive plan of instruction students will experience a curriculum that emphasizes conceptual thinking, creative inquiry and independent learning all of which are major ingredients for the scientific method. The program aims at preparing the students for life and for the more rigorous science studies, with that in mind students are held to a very high standard in my classroom. Conceptual Chemistry is an introductory chemistry class. Provides an opportunity for the student interested in areas other than science to study the basic concepts in chemistry as they relate to home and life. Chemical concepts will be used to explain many of the processes we observe in our daily lives. While examining these concepts, the student will develop skills in the laboratory and in problem solving.
