"DO OR DO NOT. THERE IS NO TRY."
- Yoda
(Star Wars references are very important in my class - be prepared for many more of these)
What does this mean? Do I expect the impossible? Do I demand perfection? NO. This quote is not about me; it is about you.
It is to remind you to commit yourself to doing your best, that every project, every piece of homework is not just an "effort," it is a tiny piece of you. Do every assignment to the best of your
ability and you will achieve
more than you ever imagined.
If you make mistakes then you are lucky, because now you have an opportunity to learn. If you make a new mistake every day, it is not proof of failure, it is proof that you are student with much
to learn, just like
everyone
else. Will you all make the same mistakes? Of course not. You are not paper dolls, you are people who share similarities but are defined by your differences. There will be those mistakes that
almost everyone makes, and
those that are unique to you. Learn from these mistakes, apply this newfound knowledge, and you will progress.
In the end, everyone either does their job, or they don't. To say, "oh well, I tried," is to say, "I eventually gave up." Giving up is to give up on yourself, and you deserve more than that. It is a
new year with no mistakes
in it yet (read "Anne of Green Gables," by L.M. Montgomery if that is not familiar). Opportunity awaits!!!! I look forward to meeting all of you.
Set your intention to learn before you enter!
