Homework
Reading Logs show reading done outside of school hours. Students should try to read everyday for 20 - 30 minutes. The reading log shows the title, author, number of minutes read and a parent signature. They are due the first day of every week. Usually this is on Monday. Grades are based both on total minutes read AND number of days spent reading. Reading logs are passed out weekly at school. You can also print one here.
Spelling homework is assigned Monday - Thursday. The first three days of the week students complete a page in their spelling workbook. On Thursday students are given a pink page for a practice test. Misspelled words should be written five times each on the back. All spelling homework is due the day after it is assigned. Spelling tests occur on Fridays. Our spelling lists can be found at spellingcity.com. This website is also available for spelling practice through games and practice tests.
Reading Logs Spelling Math Poetry Reading
Math homework is assigned Monday - Thursday. It is due the next day at school. Students can get help with concepts at the Everyday Math website listed below. There is an interactive student reference book available and math games for practice. Login names and passwords for this site have been given to students at school and sent home in the Tuesday folders early in the school year. If you don’t know your login information, ask Mrs. Falconer.
For fluency practice students are given a poem every week. We read it as school and they should read it to an audience at home. Practice for smoothness and for reading with expression. Memorizing the poem is optional but a fun bonus at school when you can recite it in front of your classmates. Poems are fun!
I DID IT! When homework is turned in on time students are given an I DID IT! ticket to add to a jar. Each day we draw five names as daily homework winners. These students get to put a sticker next to their name on a chart. This activity encourages students to bring in homework daily. We empty the jar and start fresh each quarter.
Homework for Mrs. Falconer’s class is assigned each weeknight and due the following day except for the weekly reading log (due each Monday). Students should use a three ring binder to take homework back and forth to school every day!
