Summer 2014
About me...
My name is Mr. Hemenway and this is my seventh year at Fire Lake Elementary School. This is my twelfth year being a teacher (ten years at the elementary level and two years at the high school level) and I’m looking forward to another school year.
I was born in Boston, Massachusetts and moved to Anchorage at the age of four when my dad was hired as a geologist by the Alaska Department of Transportation. My mom’s name is Tami and I have two sisters named Kristina and Stephanie who both have made Alaska their home.
My wife’s name is Jocelyn, our oldest son’s named Luke, and our youngest is named Mark. We have a wonderful yellow lab named “Maggie” and look forward to adding more to our family as the years go by.
I went to college and graduate school in Boston and enjoy going back to see friends and family as often as I can. I used to play a lot of hockey and was fortunate enough to have been drafted into the NHL and awarded a full athletic scholarship to Boston College where I played from 1994-1998. After college, I played semi-professional hockey throughout the southern United States.
Additionally, I’ve been a hockey coach for nine years and I like to hang out with my family, exercise, watch movies, listen to music, attempt home improvement projects, and read.
