Studies have shown that the common cold is one of the most frequently occurring illnesses in the United States.

According to researchers at Johns Hopkins University samples were collected every two weeks and many infected samples came from moist surfaces, such as drinking fountains, and toilet and sink handles, but most germs showed up on telephone receivers. These positive samples suggest that germs harbor themselves on hard surfaces, thus requiring the need to implement disinfection. Disinfecting these germ reservoirs is an intervention in breaking the chain of infection. In a researched study lead to Lysol Disinfectant spray, which inactivated virtually all (>99.99%) germs.
