MEARS MIDDLE SCHOOL TRACK RULES
1. Practice begins in the gym at 3 P.M. After 3
P.M. students will not
be admitted without a tardy excuse from a parent or
teacher.
2. If you have out of school suspension you may not
participate in
track that day.
3. Students who are absent from practice on the day
before a
meet will not be able to participate in the meet
unless they have made
arrangements with their roll coach prior to the
absence. This includes
OSS.
4. Students who do not dress out and participate in
P.E. will not participate
in track that day.
5. Students will receive one warning for
inappropriate behavior from a coach.
If the student does not end that behavior he/she
will be sent to the arctic entry
area to wait for a ride home. Three such
infractions will result in your removal
from the team.
6. Students who commit a serious safety infraction or
a serious behavior
infraction may be told to leave without any
warning. Such
behavior
may result in immediate dismissal from the team.
7. No student will leave the practice area or the
meet area without first
notifying their coach. In the case of an away
meet the student’s parent
must sign out with the coach.
8. Students who disobey rule #7 or have inappropriate
bus or meet
behavior will not be allowed to attend the
next away meet.
9. The Anchorage School District has a rule that no coach may release a
student to anyone but a parent or guardian while we are
away from
their home school (Mears). We are sorry, but we can not
break this rule in
any case. If you can not pick your child up from an away
meet please have
their ride pick them up from Mears after we return. We are
not allowed to
make exceptions for this rule even with a parent note or
phone call.
10. Students who are injured or ill should stay home from practice
until they
are fully recovered. Either dress out
for track or ride the bus home.
11. If you are absent please bring a written excuse from a parent or
teacher. Three unexcused absences will
result in you being dropped from
the team.
HELPFUL HINTS
PICK UP TIME:
Students should be picked up at 4:30 in front of the east arctic entry
area.
Students who are involved in high jump, shot, discus, hurdles, or
long jump may not be ready
until 4:45 on days they practice those events. For the first week of
the season and or until the track
is clear we are asking parents to pick up students at 4:15.
MEET PICK UP TIME: It is
very difficult to judge when a meet will be over. If there are
several schools involved, if we have to travel to Eagle River, or if it
is the first meet of the year,
we could be late. Generally speaking we get to Mears at around
6:30 to 7 P.M. Parents are
encouraged to attend the meets, but if you can't, please be available
to pick up your child at
Mears shortly after we return.
DRESS: Alaska can provide
some cold weather for track. Students should come prepared for
spring storms even when the sun is shining in the morning.
SHOES: Track can be hard
on legs and feet. The best help is a track shoe with good
support.
The sports stores in town sell these shoes and usually have sales
people who can point out individual
features. Spikes (track shoes for meet running) are nice but not
essential at this level. SOCKS
AND SHOE LACES MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES!

We have read the track rules and discussed them together.
We have carefully read rule #9 and will make arrangements to pick
up
our own child at away meets or to have a car pool pick him/her up
at
