Double click on a document and it doesn't open or the 'wrong' application opens
At times, when you double-click on a document, it does not open or another application rather than the one that you wanted will open up.
Specific problem: you double-click on a Word document and Pages launches and opens it.
- Launch Microsoft Word independently by clicking on the icon for Microsoft Word to launch the program. (If you can't see the shortcut on your Dock, open Macintosh HD / Applications / Microsoft Office and drag the icon to your dock (Macintosh)) [Microsoft Office is not installed on all Macs at this point. It IS installed in G214]
- From the File menu, select Open and navigate to the file that you wish to open.
- Wait for it to open the file.
With luck, the next time you might see the Word icon on your documents.
General problem: you double-click on a document and it doesn't find an appropriate application to launch and open it.

- Launch the appropriate application program
- From the File menu, select Open (you may have to show All File Types)
- If you are working in Windows and the file came from a Macintosh, you might simplify this by adding the appropriate extension to the filename by renaming the file.
