Printer Won't Print (Dell)

(All of the printers have disappeared from the Printer selection)

This has shown up with increasing frequency (Oct. 2010) and IT is looking into it. To do a quick fix (this does not fix the cause, but it gets the user printing again):

[Depending on permissions, you might need to log in as an Admin, but try it with the original user first]

• From the Start Menu, select Printers and Faxes
  • (If there are no printers showing and there should be, this is likely the problem)
• Click on Control Panel found on the left side of the window
• Select Administrative Tools (If none show up, go to Plan B, shown below)
• Select Services
• Scroll down to Print Spooler and double click on it
• Click Start

Wait for it to start, then close all your windows. You will hopefully see your printers back.

Plan B

• From the Start Menu, select Run (probably need to be an Admin)
• Enter services.msc
• Scroll down to Print Spooler and double click on it
• Click Start

Wait for it to start, then close all your windows. You will hopefully see your printers back.
