Heather bascom - science

I was born and raised in Anchorage, graduating from Service High School.  I have both a bachelor’s degree in Genetics and Development and a MAT from Cornell University, where I was a lab instructor for Honors Biology for Majors.  I started teaching in 1998 at a high school in Endicott, New York, where I taught physics, biology and chemistry.  In 2003, I returned to Anchorage and began teaching in the Highly Gifted Program at Romig.

My goal is to inspire a love of science and engineering in my students.  Through projects, labs, inquiry and engineering activities students learn how science is a part of their lives.  There is a focus on developing skills such as note taking, study skills, test taking and technical writing infused into the year.  I am a JASON project and Sally Ride Academy graduate, and have presented at the Science Teachers Association of New York annual conference.  I am highly qualified in Biology, Physics and Middle School Science.  I am a Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics State Finalist and PTA Teacher of Excellence.
