I am a lifelong Alaskan who grew up in Cordova, Alaska. I earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and worked my way up in the in the banking world from a trainee to loan officer, branch manager in charge of multiple bank branches for a Fortune 500 Corporation. I earned a master’s degree in education from Alaska Pacific University. I am highly qualified to teach middle school math and high school math. I was the Alaska State Teacher of the Year for 2015. I am the lead teacher for the Romig MATHCOUNTS team. The team has won multiple Chapter and State competitions. The kids have traveled to Fairbanks, Juneau, Denver, Washington D.C., and Orlando to compete in math competitions.

My two main goals for students in math is to foster a love of math when applied to the real world and to keep kids interested in taking math through high school and into college. I encourage an active classroom and promote collaboration and application of the math concepts being studied. Too often students become “burned out” with math and will only take the minimum amount required in high school and college. By allowing students to experience the beauty of math when applied to the real world, they will continue to challenge themselves and take upper level math in high school and college.
