MATH SUPPORT

Class Introduction:

Math Support is designed to assist students. I realize the students had to sacrifice another elective to be in this class and understand it was not their choice, but mandated they take this course. On the other hand, Math Support is to their benefit. We should all be thankful this course has been put in place to help them develop skills required to earn their high school diploma. It is my intent to make this class work to the benefit of all students in the class. With commitment and effort every student will make progress. I’ll provide every opportunity for growth. However, my efforts alone will be useless. It will take commitment of each student as well. Between the student and I, they can and will improve. Nothing changes quickly or easily. I do not expect the students to make leaps and bounds or be at the top of their grade level math courses. I only expect a sincere effort and improvements will come. In this class we will have weekly time in the computer lab to use the Larson Math program. This is a quality teaching tool that allows students a break from paper and pencil activities. Student progress is tracked in the program and is measurable. We will also spend time in the classroom working on the skills outlined in the ASD standards. I’ll work with students throughout the year in developing skills in these areas to assist them in their daily math courses. The students can also bring their grade level math homework to the class to seek further instruction. I will not let the class turn into a study hall where they work on their grade level math each day, but can help them with the concepts when necessary.
