ALGEBRA I

Class Introduction:

Contact Info: Goldsmith_Joshua@asdk12.org
Welcome, you have been enrolled in Mr. Goldsmith's math class. This year promises to be productive and fun. The following expectations and procedures will help you transition into the school year:

Progress Reports
• Updated grades are available online through Zangle. Please call the office staff if you need assistance with accessing your grades.

Binder
• You are required to have one section/divider for math in your binder.
• You will be using your math binder/divider for returned homework assignments.
• You will need extra graph paper in your binder for math class. Please be very careful not to lose your binder at it is important and contains the content to help you reach mastery of the standards.

Supplies
• As stated on the team supply list, I require a few items listed below.
- graph paper for homework assignments
- AAA batteries for the use of the classroom graphing calculators (give to Mr. Goldsmith)
- low odor dry erase markers for in class reviews (give to Mr. Goldsmith)
- ruler
- a T1-84 calculator is needed this year and every year after this in high school level mathematics.

Grading
• Homework- An assignment is generally given every night. Algebra 1 homework should not take more than 45 minutes. To receive full credit students must attempt and show evidence of work on every problem. You do not have to get the problem correct to receive full credit, but must do original work in pencil and show corrections in pen. This way when you turn in your assignment it is 100% correct. I can easily see the pen corrections and what, if any, math misunderstandings there are that I need to address. Work turned in late will only receive part credit. As homework is crucial to having success in math, it will make up 15% of your grade.
• Quizzes & Test- No notes or textbooks are allowed on quizzes or tests. Math concepts are practiced during warm ups, in-class work, and homework. Tests and quizzes will make up 85% of your grade.
• Grading Scale: A 90% or more B 80% or more C 70% or more D 60% or more F below 60%

Extra Help
• I am available for extra help after school most days and during lunch on occasion. You must make an appointment with me and get a pass if you plan to come in.
• Homework Help is also available after school on Mondays through Thursdays in scheduled rooms. **The activity bus is available for students on base every day except Friday.

Absent Work
• If you are absent you will need to complete the work you missed. Students have the same number of days as they were absent plus two to make up their work. It is the responsibility of the student to acquire and complete any missed work when returning to class after being absent.

Please Be Aware
• Algebra 1 is a fast-paced, rigorous course that is challenging. You should expect homework every night along with studying past notes before quizzes and tests. Since this is an advanced grade level class, you must maintain a B 80% or higher to remain in Algebra 1 and to be place in Formal Geometry next year.

Teacher Contact
• Feel free to email me with any questions, concerns, or to set up a conference. It is always better to communicate early on rather than wait. I look forward to a great year!
