Welcome to Yoga! The purpose of this course is to learn the specific skills and/or the techniques of yoga. By actively participating in this class, the student may gain health benefits such as improved mindfulness, body composition, increased flexibility, increased muscular endurance and increased muscular strength, in addition to learning de-stressing techniques. Participating in activity classes leads to a healthier lifestyle.
Objectives
1. Students learn to execute a variety of pose modifications to safely work within their own comfort & fitness level.
2. Learn various asanas (postures) using hatha yoga & the Iyengar methods.
3. Learn breathing techniques
4. Improve strength, flexibility and the sense of well-being.
5. Increase relaxation and learn to de-stress via poses and short meditation exercises.
6. Learn how to correctly execute required skills and techniques as well as to use the equipment/facilities safely.
7. Understand how kinesiology relates to a healthy individual lifestyle.

Supplies
Each student will be responsible for dressing out in proper gym/yoga apparel each day. No shoes are required for mat work. However, normal PE mile runs and pacer work will require normal gym attire, including shoes.

Expectations
• Students will come to class on time, prepared to learn with all the appropriate materials.
• Students will respect their instructor and fellow classmates.
• Be in the locker room when the tardy bell rings & remain until class is dismissed.
• Observe all rules in the Student Handbook and follow all expectations laid out in the regular PE syllabus.

Grading and Assignments
Grades are earned by students and not assigned by the teacher. Grades in this class will include a combination of daily mat work participation, PE runs and pace work, fitness tests, and occasional written work. An example of daily matwork participation is included on the back of this sheet.

90-100% A
80-89.9% B
70-79.9% C
60-69.9% D
59.9% and below F

Grades will be posted online via Q and can be accessed by student or parent password.
