It’s a Bird, it’s a.....no, really...that’s a bird!
Yep, there are some weird birds out there. As they say, fact is often stranger than fiction! The picture above is of a Bird of Paradise. There are many species of these birds, but they all have wild ornamentation that don’t seem to serve much of a purpose. But remember - almost everything in nature has a purpose that helps the organism survive or reproduce. So...what’s with the long feathers and bright colors? It’s an example of what is known as sexual selection, which is a topic for another time. For now, though, let’s take a look at some other bird adaptations.
