Grade 9 Math (including Geometry)
The Spreadsheet application is a very important program that can be used in many ways to save work and can also be used to illustrate many educational principles in many fields.
In Algebra, students learn to write equations to tell mathematical 'stories.' Spreadsheets are one of the tools that can be used to write equations.
Checklist - after this session, every student should be able to:
- Create and navigate around a spreadsheet
- Understand the power of spreadsheets to examine 'what-if' scenarios
- Compose simple equations within a spreadsheet
- Use Fill Down and Fill Right to copy equations; include fixed cells in equations
- Understand simple formatting commands
- Use the Sort command proficiently
- Recognize the availability of String functions to manipulate text
- Recognize the availability of the library of Excel functions for a wide variety of purposes
- Make tables in Word from Excel spreadsheets
Expectations:
- Students complete spreadsheets as assigned.
- Optional: Students turn in some of their work into a dropbox
