Long News Items

Suppose you have a 'Class Rules' sheet, or a Chapter Outline, or Important Notes to Consider saved as a Microsoft Word file? You would like to make these available to students or parents. Once you are set up and understand the steps, this takes only a few clicks and makes a nice package.

Outline:

  1. Edit the document as you see fit
  2. Save as a Word file or Adobe PDF file
  3. Upload the file to 'your' site in the district (you 'FTP' (File Transfer Protocol) the file)
  4. Create a link to the file in a Zangle Class News item

Instructions: (forgive another layer of pages, but each of these refer to a specific computer skill that is worthwhile to have and to have your computer set up for.) (these instructions to be edited later, but I wanted to get something posted tonight)

  1. Edit the document as you see fit - as it sounds. Create the document as you see fit.
  2. Save as a Word file or Adobe PDF file - an old page of instructions (if you don't want to read through all of these, ask someone who knows to show you. On Dells, you 'Print' the file to a PDF file.) One word of caution: Best practices say 'Don't put any spaces or 'fancy characters' in your file name. The web world is not as forgiving as a Macintosh for file names. Keep it simple! Another hint: you might want to put all the files for each class into a different folder in your Documents folder and upload the entire class folder.
  3. Upload the file to 'your' site in the district (you 'FTP' (File Transfer Protocol) the file) - did you use Fetch or CoreFTP to upload your grades two years ago? FTP instructions
  4. Create a link to the file in a Zangle Class News item - these instructions from the 'Link' section work. the only difference is the address. All files in your district FTP folder start with: http://www.asdk12.org/staff/lastname_firstname/pages/ So you would add your file name or folder and file name to it.
