MATH 7

Class Introduction:

Welcome to Math 7, the first year of a 2-year math curriculum that builds the foundation for success in high school mathematics. We are using the text series Big Ideas Math (red book), which follows the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). This textbook will go home with students by the end of September. For more information on CCSS, please go to the ASD's page and search Common Core.

The Big Ideas Math textbook is available online at www.bigideasmath.com. You MUST select "Common Core" for the book we have sent home with the students. However, there will be times that we use "Common Core 2014". In those instances, I will make sure the posted homework assignment says "online Common Core 2014".

Our topics of study this year are: Ratios and Proportional Relationships, the Number System, Expressions and Equations, Geometry, Statistics, and Probability. I use a Promethean board and post all of our class notes and homework assignments here on my web site.

This class will be different from the traditional math classroom experience. After the first few weeks of school this fall, we will transition to a Flipped Classroom style to use throughout the rest of the school year. In this style, students will read textbook information and take notes at home as homework. In class the following school day, students will complete exercise problems that are traditionally done at home. This enables students to arrive in class with content instruction and work collaboratively with teacher support as they practice these new concepts.

If you need help, be sure you are using all of your resources: comp. book notes (completed at home and in class), textbooks, corrected assessments, peers, and teacher. I am available right before, during, and after class.

I am so excited to share my love of math and learning with you! If you need to contact me, please don't hesitate to e-mail me at fowley_katherine@asdk12.org.
