Grade 9-10: Science (IS-9 and Biology)

The spreadsheet application is a very important program that can be used in many ways to save work and can also be used to illustrate many educational principles in many fields.

In all fields of science, numerical data need to be presented in ways that they can be easily understood by the target audience. Graphs (or charts) are a powerful way to accomplish this. Spreadsheets provide a tool for the quick creation of these.

Checklist - after this session, every student should know how to:

• Create simple bar charts, line charts, pie charts, and scattergrams.
• Include, adjust, and customize appropriate settings to include needed information.
• Insert charts into word processing and presentation software.

Expectations:

• Students create graphs as assigned and paste them into the Word document framework.
• Students turn in completed Word document into Hand In folder

With many freshmen taking biology instead of IS-9, this assignment will be done twice, but with different actual projects for IS-9 and Biology, so that students who take both courses will complete two separate projects.
