SURVEY OF ALGEBRA 9-12

Class Introduction:

Welcome to Algebra A (9-12), I have created a reference sheet to help guide you through the freedoms and responsibilities connected to your new math class.

As you may already be aware, you are participating in a new math class using the program called Inside Algebra. This is a two year program serving students who have an individual education plan and qualify for special education services in the area of math. Math class is a sanctuary for learning, so positive attitudes and the ability make good choices are much appreciated. How will this lead me to be successful in the future? A great starting point would be to leave conflicts and personal challenges outside our classroom door since they can be very distracting, and should therefore be handled outside of class time. Otherwise, to star your successful trajectory towards accomplishing your goals please start by bringing the necessary materials listed below: a three ring binder, math folder, pencil(s), graph and lined paper, ruler, and weekly student planner or sheet. Also, I have listed some simple guidelines for classroom behaviors to help you understand what my expectations are

� Always come to school and be prepared to work.
� Be on time-be in your seat, before the bell rings.
� Make sure to keep track of deadlines for assignments, homework, and projects.
� Strive to produce your best work.
� Attitude, neatness, and quality of work counts.
� Be an active learner and participate in lessons by asking and answering questions.
� Respect the teacher, your classmates, and yourself.
� Follow directions.
� Use your inside voice and words instead of actions.

Attendance is critical to your success in any class, and we enjoy having you at South Anchorage High School. Please be in your seat with proper materials when the bell rings, otherwise you will be counted tardy. If you have any other questions about student�s responsibilities please refer to the High School Student Handbook.

The goal of this class is to give students the strategies to improve performance and meet their individual needs in math. Students will receive direct instruction in specific math concepts and problem-solving skills as designated in the curriculum and math program as recommended by previous math teacher and placed by current high school counselor. All math programs are correlated to the Common Core State Standards, however, this special education math program goes even further to help students meet their individual goals and objectives as stated in their Individual Education Plans (IEP). Students will be afforded time each day to work on daily math assignments known as practice. Additional practice assigned by the teacher will be given daily points and time the following day for clarification. In addition, students will continue to work towards mastery on Standard Based Assessments (SBA) in each of their specific and progressive math program.
